If you have opened or continued an EPLAN project of the type *.EPDZ, this project can consist of multiple layout spaces. In addition multiple enclosures can be contained within a layout space, for example for enclosure bayings. Within an enclosure there a different mounting sites such as doors, mounting rails, mounting panels, etc. whose electrical devices have to connected to each other.
A layout space and an enclosure selection are available in EPLAN Smart Wiring. These allow the desired routing connections to be displayed for your installation work. Through the enclosure selection it is furthermore possible to select only the routing connections of the enclosure that are assigned to a specific mounting site.
Selecting layout spaces
If a project has more than one layout space, the Select layout space dialog is displayed after opening or continuing the project. In this dialog you can determine in which layout space of the project you want to edit routing connections. The dialog is also accessed if you have selected the Layout spaceA layout space is a 3D display area showing placed devices. It can be used for viewing and editing 3D data. menu item.
Information is provided about the respective progress of the installation for each layout space listed in the dialog, whereby the number of the installed routing connections and the total number of the available routing connections is displayed.
Before the final selection you can have a graphical preview of the layout space displayed in the right-hand display section of the dialog.
Procedure
- Mark the desired layout space in the list of the dialog.
- If you want to obtain a detailed view of the mounting layout in the layout space in advance, change the zoom factor and/or the viewing angle in the preview by means of mouse or finger movements.
- Confirm the selection with [OK].
- The connection list of the selected layout space is opened for editing.
- In the 3D viewThe 3D view is a separate display area in EPLAN Smart Wiring. This is always visible when 3D information is available in the loaded project. the mounting layout of the selected layout space is displayed.
Note
If you have already selected a layout space of a project encompassing several layout spaces, you can also switch to a different layout space in the 3D view. To this purpose use the red field at the lower edge of the 3D view, and "browse" through the layout spaces of the project by means of the arrow buttons.
Long layout space names that do not fit into the red field, are displayed in shortened form. By clicking or tapping the name you can display the unabridged layout space name in a separate dialog.
Selecting enclosures and mounting sites
Preconditions
- You have selected the desired layout space.
- Mounting layouts of at least two enclosures are contained in the layout space.
- The layout space contains connections of the type "Wire", "Wire jumper" or "Tube".
Procedure
- In the search and filter bar of the connection list click or tap the button on the left-hand side.
- The button cannot be activated if you have selected the "Cable" connection type.
- In the list of the enclosure selection dialog select one of the following options:

Selecting mounting sites
You select a specific mounting site in the enclosure by means of the enclosure selection.
Preconditions
- You have clicked or tapped on the button in the search and filter bar of the connection list so that the list of the Enclosure selection dialog is open.
- At least one enclosure is listed in the dialog for which one or more mounting sites are defined. This is identified through the symbol before the enclosure identification.
Procedure
- Click or tap on the symbol before the desired enclosure identification.
- The list is extended below the enclosure identification with the mounting information.
- Select one of the required options from the extended list:

Using a filter during the enclosure selection
When selecting enclosures and mounting sites, the Filter field is also available in the Enclosure selection dialog.
Procedure
- Enter a character string into the field that is part of an enclosure identification or a mounting site designation.
- The filter is applied. The display of the enclosures and mounting sites in the list of the dialog is reduced in accordance with the entries that match the filter value.
- If you want to delete the filter, remove the value entered in the field.
