Working with project instances

In EPLAN Smart Wiring you generally work with project instances. A project instance is the copy of an original project that you load as a project file via the Project > Open project menu items. The administrator (manufacturing planner) makes the project files available to you on the EPLAN Smart Wiring server in a fixed defined working directory or in a subdirectory of the working directory.

You can load the following file types:

  • *.EPDZ (EPLAN Pro Panel-specific export file that contains the complete project and layout space information as well as data on all 3D routing connections in compressed form)
  • *.XLS, *.XLSX (MS-Excel file with connection information that has a fixed column layout).

The loaded project file remains unchanged during the editing of the project. Instead you keep working with the generated project instance that is managed as a database application-internally. Every generated project instance contains one ID (identification number) that is incremented continuously. You can open one and the same project several times and in this way generate different instances of the project and keep editing them independently of each other.

When you have completed the editing of a project instance without completing the wiring work and want to continue editing at a later time, you have to select the Project > Continue project menu items.
