NC Export: Principle

Generally, every NC export is based on the selection of items. This selection can be made in the layout space or layout space navigator. In the process, for a selected object all objects below it are always selected automatically as well, and thus exported too.

Only the selected NC-relevant items are exported. If only individual mounting surfaces are selected in the layout space navigator, it is always the affected item that is exported and with which they are associated.

The selection of the objects to be exported can be extended automatically to the entire project.

NC relevance of items

Machining does not occur on every mounting surface. A wire duct with a drilling pattern, as a rule, generates machining on a mounting panel. If the same wire duct is placed on a chassis, for example, no holes are generated.

Whether there are holes or not is not determined by the item to be mounted (e.g., the wire duct), but above all the item (and thus the mounting surface) on which the item is to be placed.

Every 3D part placement, therefore, is given the property Machining. This property can be changed manually by the user.

The property Machining is activated for the following function definitions:

For all other function definitions, the property is deactivated by default.

Field for NC machining

A field in the NC export is a (part) surface that is machined by the NC machine. Each item with NC relevance (i.e., with the Machining property activated) is treated as a field during the export to an NC robot or when creating a drilling template. Of course, this applies only if it is included in the selection for the export, and only if this field has been equipped in the project and if, thus, machining occurs.

Field size in 3D macros

When creating 3D macros with NC-relevant surfaces, you must define the mounting surface as well as a field size, which generally corresponds to the surrounding rectangle of the mounting surface. NC-relevant surfaces without a field size are not exported. A check run (P026030) checks whether all NC-relevant mounting surfaces have a defined field size.

Mounting check

The mounting check checks whether all items that have been placed on NC-relevant surfaces have a drilling pattern. This check is done via a check run. The check run message is always output if a part placement has been placed on an NC-relevant mounting surface and no valid drilling pattern has been assigned.
