Creating Jumpers

Jumpers can be created in a number of different ways. You manually create a jumper at a connection definition point by specifying the jumper type for the connection there. You can (e.g.) define an insertable jumper or a wire jumper.

You can also define whether wire jumpers or saddle jumpers are to be used between the terminals of a terminal strip. Saddle jumpers can also be automatically generated.

Preconditions:

Three different possibilities for creating jumpers based on an example are described below. On a schematic page three terminals are joined together using two angles and a T-node.

Define jumpers via the connection definition

  1. Select the menu items Project data > Connections > Navigator.
  2. In the Connections - <Project name> dialog, select the connection between the first and second terminals.
  3. Select the Properties popup menu item.
  4. Click [...] next to the Function definition field in the Connection tab of the Properties <...> dialog.
  5. In the expanded tree of the Function definitions dialog, select the "Insertable jumper" connection definition.
  6. Click [OK].
  7. In the connection navigator, select the connection between the second and third terminals and this time select a "Wire jumper" connection definition.
  8. Click [OK].

    A connection definition point is also added to the schematic for this connection.
  9. Select the first terminal in the schematic and then select the menu items Project data > Terminal strips > Edit.

    Red jumper graphics are displayed in the Edit terminal strip dialog. In the Saddle jumpers (internal) column, a saddle jumper is shown between the first and second terminals, and in the Jumpers (internal) column a wire jumper is shown between the second and third terminals.

Connect terminals with wire jumpers

  1. Select the first terminal in the terminal strip and select the Terminal tab in the Properties <...> dialog.
  2. From the Saddle jumper drop-down list, select the entry "No automatic jumper".
  3. Click [OK].
  4. Repeat the settings for the second and third terminals, using the same entries.
  5. Select the first terminal in the schematic and then select the menu items Project data > Terminal strips > Edit.

    In the Edit terminal strip dialog a red jumper graphic is displayed in the Jumpers (internal) which joins the three terminals in the selected terminal strip.

Connect terminals with saddle jumpers

  1. Select the first terminal in the terminal strip and select the Terminal tab in the Properties <...> dialog.
  2. From the Saddle jumper drop-down list, select the entry "Automatic". (This entry is already set by default.)
  3. Click [OK].
  4. Repeat the settings for the second and third terminals, using the same entries.
  5. Select the first terminal in the schematic and then select the menu items Project data > Terminal strips > Edit.

    In the Edit terminal strip dialog, a red jumper graphic is displayed in the Saddle jumpers (internal) column, which joins the three terminals in the selected terminal strip.

Tip:

You can use special buttons to generate or delete manual saddle jumpers in the Edit terminal strip dialog. The saddle jumpers can be generated separately for internal and external saddle jumper connection points.

Connect terminals with switching jumpers

A switching jumper connects one terminal with the subsequent terminal in a switchable manner. Using the properties Switching jumper (external) and Switching jumper (internal), you can define switching jumpers separately for the internal and external sides of the terminal. Here is an example explaining the creation of external switching jumpers.

  1. Select the first terminal in the terminal strip and select the Terminal tab in the Properties <...> dialog.
  2. In the list of properties, select the Switching jumper (external) property, and select in the Value column the entry "Closed" from the drop-down list. (If this property does not exist in the list, you must add it using the (New) button.)
  3. Click [OK].

    An external switching jumper is generated from the first to the second terminal.
  4. Repeat the setting for the second terminal, using the same entries.

    An external switching jumper is generated from the second to the third terminal.
  5. Select the first terminal in the schematic and then select the menu items Project data > Terminal strips > Edit.

    In the Edit terminal strip dialog, the set value for the switching jumpers is displayed in the Switching jumper (external) column.
