Mechatronic components are the basis for an interdisciplinary, modular process. The are the center of mechatronical development processes and decouple the task of the discipline-spanning development of mechatronic components from the configuration with mechatronic components.

The goal is to avoid copying from project to project (-> Wall) and to minimize project-specific efforts.

Reusable components are developed by analyzing existing projects. In the example the development team has recognized the gripper as a component that is used multiple times through looking at the completed projects and has included it into the modular system.
