The Exchange mounting surface functionality allows simple and rapid assignment of complex equipments to a different mounting surface. A mounting surface can be exchanged variably:
- Related to an item
- Between different parts
- Since the items are alternately exchanged with each other, the target areas may not populated with items.
The following example describes the exchange of all items on a mounting surface of a mounting panel within one layout space.
Preconditions:
- You have opened a project.
- The layout space navigator is open and a layout space is open.
- An isometric 3D viewpoint is activated.
Exchanging a mounting surface between two surfaces
- Select the Edit > Graphic > Exchange mounting surface menu item.
- Click to select the source item (mounting panel, rail, chassis, etc.).
The selected item is highlighted in light green color. - Click a surface directly on the source item or an item that is placed on the mounting surface of the source item. All the items on the selected surface are highlighted in medium green color.
- Click to select the target item on whose mounting surface the exchange is to take place. The selected surface is highlighted in light green color.
- Click a mounting surface on the target item or an item that is placed on it. The selected item is highlighted in yellow color. All items of both areas are exchanged with each other.
Example:- Selection of a source item (Mounting panel 1)
- Selection of a surface or an item on the source item
- Selection of a target item (Mounting panel 2)
- Selection of a surface on the target item

Exchanging a mounting surface with preview
- Select the Edit > Graphic > Exchange mounting surface menu item.
- Click to select the source item (mounting panel, rail, chassis, etc.). The selected item is highlighted in light green color.
- To exchange the mounting surfaces on one item: Press the [Tab] button. The items on the source item are placed as a preview one after another on all the available mounting surfaces of the source item.
- To exchange the mounting surfaces between multiple items: Click to select the target item on whose mounting surface the exchange is to take place. The selected target item is highlighted in light green color.
- Press the [Tab] button. The items are placed as a preview one after another on all the available mounting surfaces of the source item and target item. This way all the possible exchanges of the items on all the mounting surfaces can be displayed.
- If the desired result is displayed, end the selection with the spacebar. All items of the selected areas are exchanged with each other.
- Selection of a source and target item (mounting panels 1 and 2)
- Change of the preview of the placement of all mounting surfaces with [Tab]
- Termination of the selection with the space bar and result
Tip:
If the automatic or manual replacement of a Rittal TS8 part is not possible, the Exchange mounting surface functionality also simplifies the complete new manual mounting layout with Rittal VX25 parts.
