The term "cable type" denotes the parent group of a type of cable, that is, the family of cables, to which different cables with different properties and different variants can belong. The cable type describes the type, the variant, and the usage properties of cables. For the designation of the cable type, standardized letter combinations are usually used, in combination with manufacturer-specific designations.
