Object Snap

Texts and logical elements (symbols, black boxes, etc.) have insertion points. They are indicated by a small, filled rectangle. Graphical elements have element points (for example starting and end points). They are indicated by a small, unfilled rectangle.

If the Object snap is activated in the status bar via the button (Object snap on / off), these points are used as snap points. Graphical objects are then automatically connected to these snap points when inserted.

In addition to the element points, other points are also used as snap points:

  • Centers of lines and polyline segments
  • Centers of circles, arcs and ellipses
  • Intersections of elements.

Perpendicular points and tangent points

If the Object snap is activated, a perpendicular point or a tangent point is displayed at the cursor while drawing graphical elements as soon as a perpendicular or tangential line element is possible.

If the Object snap is deactivated, these (and other) points are not used as snap points and are not displayed accordingly.

Perpendicular or tangential mode while drawing

Irrespective of the setting for the Object snap, the two modes Perpendicular and Tangential are available in the popup menu when drawing particular graphical elements (lines, circles, etc.).

You can draw a perpendicular line or a tangent by means of these functionalities. The icon at the cursor changes as soon as you have selected a mode in the popup menu. The respective modes for the following graphical elements are available:

  • Perpendicular drawing mode (cursor: ): for lines, polylines and polygons
  • Tangential drawing mode (cursor: ): for lines, polylines, polygons, circles, arcs above the center and sectors.
