Using the graphical editor, both schematics and mechanical drawings (like graphics, overview drawings, panel layouts, scheme drawings, panel layout drawings, scheme drawings, wiring diagrams, etc.), can be created. Since many text entries must be made in the E-CAE area, the graphical editor has extensive keyboard support. Operation largely corresponds to familiar Windows functionality.
Calling a command does not end the previous action in every case; if it is possible from a processing point of view, the first action is simply interrupted. For instance, the zoom function doesn't end the drawing of a line, but only interrupts that action. Once the zoom has been completed, the drawing of the line is continued at the point of interruption.
You have the option of specifying different settings for work with the graphical editor:
- You can specify the color scheme, the cursor image, and the display of invisible elements.
- You can specify presets for drawing connectors.
- Aside from the user-specific settings, you can also specify project-specific settings for the units of project pages, the display of connection joints and connection point designations, etc.
Within the graphical editor, you have the following options for the editing of projects:
- Multiple graphical editors can be opened at once (for the same project or for different ones).
- You can choose between different coordinate systems and specify a new origin.
- Using the zoom functions, you can enlarge a section of the page.
- Different editing options are available to you which simplify the exact placement of elements, like the use of grids, the object snap, and the orthogonal function.
- As in the familiar Windows functionality, elements can be pasted, copied, cut, and deleted.
- Elements and element properties can be changed later.
- Objects with a closed outline, e.g. ellipses, circles, rectangles, and polygons, can be shown filled.
- Besides graphical elements, texts, and symbols, image files in various image formats can also be inserted.
- Texts can be "docked", so that they act like a block and can be moved as a unit.
- You have the option of creating a hyperlink on any page which can call up a linked document.
