If you insert window and symbol macros that already exist into a macro project, you can use the new Insert macros referencing project setting to specify that macros are inserted as a reference. (The menu path for the corresponding settings dialog is Options > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Graphical editing > General.)
Benefit:
The new Insert macros referencing setting takes into account the different working methods of our users with regard to the creation of macros. The recommended activation of this setting results in the insertion of macros as reference. This can be used for the effective and simplified structuring of nested macros.
If this check box is activated, macros are inserted into a macro project with the type of usage "Referencing" and with an entered source project. While the macros can be updated, only few modifications can be made at the macro box itself. Such a setting makes sense, for example, if macros exist in a completed state and are to be used as internal macros in nested macro boxes.
If the check box is deactivated, macros are inserted into a macro project with the type of usage "Defining" and without an entered source project. This way users can keep using and editing existing macros for their own macro project.
No setting can be made in a schematic project. In this instance the check box is grayed out.
