Dialog Settings: Dictionary / Tab User

In this dialog / tab you select the dictionary to be used for the translation. The dictionary can be based on an Access database or an SQL server database. All settings are user-specific.

Overview of the main dialog elements:

Dictionary:

Select the Access option here in order to then interactively select the *.mdb database file via [...].

You can use the Insert path variable popup menu item to branch to the dialog Select path variable where you can select one of the available path variables.

Or select the SQL server option and then one of the last 15 SQL databases used from the drop-down list. The databases used last are listed at the top. When opening / generating a new database that is not yet contained in the list, the lowest database may be removed from the list. The list can be deleted with the exception of the database currently being used by means of the popup menu item Delete entries.

Or click [...] to specify the settings for using an SQL server in the SQL server setting dialog.

(New):

The (New) button next to the Access and SQL Server fields allows you to create a new dictionary.

Dictionary languages:

All languages in the selected dictionary are listed here.

Remove end of sentence character:

This setting affects the punctuation marks . (period), ! (exclamation mark), and ? (question mark) if they occur in a project text as an end of sentence character. Whether EPLAN interprets punctuation marks as end of sentence characters depends on the type of segmentation you set under Options > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Translation > General in the Segment field. If the check box is selected, EPLAN tries to find a corresponding keyword without an end of sentence character when translating in the dictionary. If the check box is deselected, EPLAN tries to find a corresponding keyword with an end of sentence character when translating. In the "Import project / part texts" and "Add project texts manually to the dictionary" methods you can use this check box to define whether the entire entry of a text box is added to the dictionary with or without an end of sentence character. In the "Export missing-word list" method you can define whether the sentences / the entire entry of a text box are exported with or without an end of sentence character.

Treat numbers as text:

This functionality is handy when you want to translate numbers. To do this, store numbers as keywords in the dictionary and assign them to translation texts. If the check box is selected, when doing the translation EPLAN will look in the dictionary for a translation text that matches the number. If EPLAN finds a matching translation text, the number is translated. If EPLAN doesn't find a matching translation text, the number is treated as a missing word. When you export a missing-word list, numbers will be output as well. If the check box is not selected, numbers will be kept unchanged during translation. When you export a missing-word list, numbers will not be output.

Note:

This functionality applies to texts that consist exclusively of numbers, for example 11111, 2376, or 987654.
This functionality does not apply for texts consisting of numbers and letters together, for example A1234, 234B, or 9a4c5u.

Detect decimal numbers:

If this check box is activated, the decimal numbers and numbers with preceding signs are detected during the translation. Numbers that contain at least one digit and any combination of signs, commas, point, plus, minus and slash ("/") without any blank space between, are considered as one number. For the translation texts that contain such decimal numbers, only one keyword with a %0 placeholder is required in the dictionary.

If the check box deactivated, only numerical sequences are detected as individual numbers. In this case multiple keywords for the possible combination of numbers and signs are required in the dictionary. If a number contains, for example, a comma, the sequences before and behind the comma are interpreted as separate numbers.

Append new translations:

You can import translated texts into the dictionary. If you select this check box in the Import group box then, when importing text, new keywords and their translation texts not already present in the dictionary are loaded into the dictionary. If the check box is deselected then new keywords and their translation texts are not loaded into the dictionary.

Existing translations:

This function is significant if you would like to import translated project texts into the dictionary, and keywords and/or translation texts are already in the dictionary.

AutoComplete:

If the check box is selected, translatable words will be automatically completed while you type. The words have to be in the dictionary already.

Tip:

For the automatic completion of words, typed-in letters are automatically expanded to create words. For example, you have typed in the following:

EPLAN expands the word automatically to:

If you want to directly translate only the word you have typed in (tacho), then select Popup menu > Multilingual input.

If you want to see all word suggestions for the entire entry (tacho generator), select Popup menu > Translate or [Ctrl] + [L].

AutoCorrect:

If this check box is activated, all the words that you have specified in the AutoCorrect tab of the dictionary will be replaced in the first display language by their replacement text.
