Modules form one of the possibilities in the EPLAN platform of mapping complex devices. Modules have the same properties as parts, but additionally contain lists of subparts (so-called module positions). These subparts are identified via a subordinate DT or a so-called "DT ID".
Preconditions:
- You have opened the Parts management dialog (Tab Master data > Command group Parts > Management).
- You have marked the "Module" hierarchy level or a module part in the tree.
- You have created a suitable macro for the module.
- Select the New popup menu item in the tree.
If you have highlighted the "Module" hierarchy level, EPLAN generates a new module with the part number New(<consecutive_number>). This is also the case when you have selected hierarchy level of one of the generic product groups, such as "Fluid power", for example (if no hierarchy level of the modules exists in the tree yet).
If you have highlighted a module part, EPLAN generates a new module with the part number Original_part number(<Consecutive_number>). - In the right-hand section of the dialog change to the Properties tab.
- Change the automatically assigned entry for the Part number property in the General hierarchy level.
- Change the product grouping for the module, if hierarchy levels with the "Undefined" designation have occurred. This is the case, for example, when you have selected the "Module" hierarchy level.
- To this purpose click in the Value column for the Product grouping property and then click [...]. From the drop-down list with the product groups double-click to select the desired product subgroup (e.g. "General").
The selected product grouping is displayed in the Product grouping property. After application of the modifications the product grouping is also displayed for the hierarchy levels in the tree. - Enter the other data of the module (e.g. Manufacturer) in the Properties tab.
- Select the Data hierarchy level in the same tab. For modules from the "Mechanics" generic product group, select the Mounting data hierarchy level.
- For the Schematic macro / Graphical macro property click into the Value column and use select the previously created macro for the module.
If the Graphical preview window is activated, a preview of the macro is displayed during the selection. - Click [Apply] to save the entries and modifications without leaving parts management.
Note:
If no "Module" hierarchy level is available for a generic product group (e.g. Fluid power), you create a module via the popup menu items New > Module.
Assign module items
Preconditions:
- You have opened the Parts management dialog (Tab Master data > Command group Parts > Management).
- You have created a module.
- Mark the desired module in the tree view or in the list view.
- In the right-hand section of the dialog change to the Module tab.
- Click (New) to generate a line in the list of module positions.
- Click [...] in the Part number column.
- In the tree or list view select the desired part in the Part selection dialog. Multiple selection is not possible.
- Click [OK].
- Enter the subordinate device tag of a device that belongs to this module in the DT column.
Notes:
- The device has to be part of the macro that was assigned to the module. The part entered in this line is assigned to this device when inserting the module.
- Either the subordinate DT of the device or the DT ID entered at the device is used to identify a device assigned in the macro. Correspondingly either an entry in the DT column or in the DT ID column is possible per row (meaning for a module position).
- Repeat these steps for each additional assignment.
- Click [Apply] to save the entries and modifications without leaving parts management.
- Select the Summarize function templates menu item below the [Extras] button.
The function templates located at the subparts of the modules are combined and entered for all the modules in the Function templates tab. - Close the parts management and save the modified data.
- Click [Yes] in the subsequent dialog to perform a parts data synchronization.
Note:
The default setting for a new line is taken from the line currently selected, i.e., its data on number and part number is used. If no entry is marked, then an empty line is generated (with a default Quantity = "1").
Insert modules into graphics
Precondition:
You have opened a project page in the graphical editor.
- Select the following commands: Insert center > Breadcrumb trail Home > Devices.
- Branch to the previously created module in the Insert center via the folder structure or the breadcrumb trail and select it as the device by clicking the preview tile.
- Place the module via drag & drop on the schematic page.
The module part is entered at the black box and the subparts listed in the module are assigned to the module devices.
Modules from the "Mechanics" generic product group are also inserted in an opened layout space via the Insert center. When placing in the 3D mounting layout, snap points are displayed so that a module can be positioned several times in a row.
