Structure of the Device Tag

The device tag is one of the identifying properties and can be structured as follows:

  • User-defined: Free hierarchy
  • ==: Functional assignment
  • =: Function designation
  • ++: Installation site
  • +: Location designation
  • -: DT (with prefix digits, identifier, counter, separator, and subcounter)

You can use the project property Page structure to specify which properties identify a device uniquely (for example "Function designation and location designation" or "Functional assignment and installation site"). In contrast, in the Full DT dialog you can specify how the DT is displayed in the circuit diagram (e.g., with prefix digits, subcounters, etc.). This display format is independent of the project structure!

For the different types of devices, there are different default settings which can be specified in the Structure tab of the Project properties dialog. You can use the settings for the separator character there to specify what substructures should be displayed, for example, "=A1.A1" or "=A1=A1". Moreover, the following setting options are also available in the project-specific settings:

  • Settings: DT: Here you specify how upper- and lower-case letters and the assignment of preceding signs should be handled for particular devices (File > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Devices > DT).
  • Settings: DT syntax check: Here, you can specify for components of the DT whether, and on the basis of which components, the identifier check should be carried out (File > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Device > DT syntax check).
