Online Numbering Format

The numbering format is composed of the following format elements:

  • Identifier
  • Page
  • Column
  • Row
  • Counter
  • Separator.

To ensure that you receive a valid numbering result, the following rules apply to the numbering format and the format elements:

  • The numbering format must always include an identifier.
  • No format element may include a point (except for the separator). The period defines a subordinate level.

DT with preceding sign

M3

DT without preceding sign

The preceding sign (dash, hyphen) only appears in the DT if the Set preceding sign setting is activated for the device type.

Identifier

The identifier denotes a device category. It is taken automatically from the assignment table for the selected identifier class. The identifier is standard-dependent.

The identifier normally consists of one or more letters. In the DT, the identifier must appear before the counter.

Page

The page in the DT denotes the page name of the schematic page where the device is placed. If the DT contains a counter, the page must appear before the counter. If the page appears after an identifier and before a counter, then the minimum number of digits for the page must be specified.

Column

The column denotes the column designation for the column where the device is located. The column is either the path or the schematic position, depending on the spatial position / rotation of the schematic page. If the column designation appears after an identifier and before a counter, then the minimum number of digits for the column designation must be specified.

Row

The row denotes the row designation for the row where the device is located. The row is either the path or the schematic position, depending on the spatial position / rotation of the schematic page. If the row designation appears after an identifier and before a counter, then the minimum number of digits for the row designation must be specified.

Counter

Counters normally consist of numbers. But they may contain letter elements.

If the numbering format contains a counter, then the counter must be at the end of the format. EPLAN can use this to determine an existing counter when numbering.

Separators

Separators are used to separate format elements from each other. Each separator can consist of any combination of characters (numbers, letters and special characters), or also of blanks. Separators can be inserted only behind the identifier and in front of the counter.

If you use as separators a point, minus sign, or a preceding sign of structure identifiers, then round brackets will be inserted automatically around the format component between the identifier and counter. The display of the brackets can be activated and deactivated via the check box Hide brackets in DT (command path: File > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Devices > DT).
