Dialog / Tab Interconnect devices

Dialog Interconnect devices: In this dialog, you generate unplaced connections between device connection points. To do so, you select a device source and a device target. You may connect devices that have not yet been placed on a page. You can also create cables that have not yet been placed on a page. Newly created cables are displayed in the cable navigator (command path: Tab Connections > Command group Cables > Navigator).

Interconnect devices: In this tab you can choose to define multi-line connections at a connection definition point in the Single-line representation of the schematic. In this case the connection points of the devices connected via single-line connection are already shown in the table. A free choice of source and target is not possible. Cables cannot be created either, as this would result in unplaced functions.

Overview of the main dialog elements:

Device source:

In this field you select the device which is to be start / source of the connection. If a device with connection points is selected in a navigator, this device is automatically entered in the field. The device connection points are displayed in the Connection point column in the table below. Click the [...] button to open the Select device dialog. This shows all of the devices you can select as sources for the connection.

If you have opened the Interconnect devices tab for a single-line connection definition point, the device source for the single-line connection is entered in the field automatically. A free device choice is not possible. The device connection points are displayed in the Connection point column in the table below. In this case only connection points of unplaced multi-line functions are displayed.

Function text:

Shows the function text of the device you have selected in the Device source field. The function text is entered in the Properties <...> dialog in the Function text field.

Table:

Shows all connection points belonging to the device you have selected in the Device source field. Existing connections are displayed in the Connection color / number column. An additional connection cannot be made at connection points that already have a connection. You can configure the column view using the popup menu. You can sort the entries by clicking the column headers.

This button is available when a connection is selected. Opens the dialog Properties <...>: Connection. Allows you to edit the selected connection.

(Delete)

This button is available when a connection is selected. Deletes the selected connection.

(Move to the beginning)

Moves the selected entry to the beginning of the list.

(Move up)

Moves the selected entry up one line.

(Move down)

Moves the selected entry down one line.

(Move to the end)

Moves the selected entry to the end of the list.

(Exchange)

Swaps the positions of the selected entries.

Internal / External:

In this drop-down list you can choose whether to display only the internal, only the external, or both sides of the terminal strip that you have selected as the start / source for the connection.

If you have opened the Interconnect devices tab for a single-line connection definition point, only the sides of the terminal strip which are connected to the single-line connection are listed.

Selected:

For the device source, shows the number of terminals selected in the field above.

Cable DT:

In this field, you select the cable. If a cable is selected in the device or cable navigator, the cable is entered in the field automatically. The [...] button opens the Select cable dialog. The dialog shows all the cables you're able to select.

Create a new cable by entering a cable DT. You use [...] next to the Cable type field to assign a part to the cable. If the cable has no part assigned, the cable is available with any number of cable connections.

If you have opened the Interconnect devices tab for a single-line connection definition point, the cable assigned to the single-line connection is displayed here. You cannot create a new cable.

Cable type:

Shows the cable type of the cable entered in the Cable DT field. The [...] button is available if you've entered a new cable DT in the Cable DT field. Opens the Part selection dialog allowing assignment of a part to the cable.

Statistics:

This field displays the following connection information:

  • Free cable connections: Shows the number of cable connections that are not yet connected.
  • Free PE conductors: Shows the number of PE / PEN conductors that are not yet connected.
  • Free shields: Shows the number of shields that are not yet connected.

Popup menu:

The popup menu provides - depending on the field type (e.g. date, integer, multilingual) - the following menu items that are, depending on the situation, available for influencing the table or editing the values in the fields. You can find an overview of these popup menu items in the section Popup menu items.

In addition, the following dialog-specific popup menu items are available:

Delete connections

Deletes existing connections.

Exchange cable connections

This menu item is available when two cable connections of a cable are selected. Swaps the two cable connections. The device source and device target remain unchanged.

Generate wire jumper

Generates a wire jumper between two highlighted connection points. The jumper is then displayed as an additional line in the table.

Add insulation

Generates an insulated wire termination. In the Property dialog enter the DT at which the connection ends. The insulation is then displayed as an additional line in the table and must be connected to the desired connection point. This results in a connection an insulated wire termination.

Connection point logic

Opens the Connection point logic dialog. Allows you to edit the properties of the marked connection point.

Properties

This menu item is available when a connection is selected. Opens the Properties (components): Connection dialog. Allows you to edit the connection properties.

Properties (global)

Opens the Properties (global): Connection dialog. Shows the connection properties in device-oriented mode. Allows you to edit the device properties for all representation types of the connection.

Device target:

In this field, you select the device to be the end point / target of the connection. Click the [...] button to open the Select device dialog. This shows all devices you can select as a target for the connection. The device connection points are displayed in the Connection point column in the table below.

Function text:

Internal / External:

In this drop-down list you can choose whether to display only the internal, only the external, or both sides of the terminal strip that you have selected as the end point / target for the connection.

If you have opened the Interconnect devices tab for a single-line connection definition point, only the sides of the terminal strip which are connected to the single-line connection are listed.

Selected:

For the device target, shows the number of connection points selected in the field above.

Edit cable:

If the check box is selected and you click [Generate connections] then the Edit cable dialog opens automatically.

Include saddle jumpers:

If the check box is selected, then connection points of connection point type "Saddle jumper" will be shown in the table. Connection points for automatically generated saddle jumpers will also be shown; these may have any connection point type.
Displaying saddle jumper connections means that terminals can be shown more than once, as the 'Terminal, general' logic model has four connection points. Two of these connection points are designed for saddle jumpers. In order to detect the connection point type, in this case you should also display the property Connection point logic: Connection point type in the table (via the popup menu item Configure representation).

If the check box is deselected, both connection points of connection point type 'saddle jumper' and connection points for automatically generated saddle jumpers are hidden.

[Generate connections]:

Generates connections between the selected connection points of the device source and the selected connection points of the device target. If you have selected different numbers of connection points when placing the cable connections, the smaller number of connections are generated. If you have selected more connection points than available cable connections, the connection points are connected using only the cable connections available.
