Projects can be restored from the Backstage view and from the project management. In the Backstage view restoring takes place when opening a backed up project.
As standard, all master data is restored on a project basis and then finally compared with the master data pool. If differences exist, then you must decide which data you wish to use.
Restore projects (Backstage view)
- Select the following commands: File > Open > Command group Open > Browse.
- In the Open project dialog, select the project you would like to restore. Multiple selection is possible. If necessary, select the entry "Backed up EPLAN project (*.zw1)" in the drop-down list next to the file name so that only backed up projects are displayed.
- Click [Open].
- In the Restore project dialog, use the
button in the Target directory field to select the target directory to which the data backup is to be restored. - If you have only selected a single project for opening, you can change the name of the project to avoid overwriting an existing project in the Project name field.
- Confirm your entries.
The backed up project is restored and copied into the specified project directory. If several projects were selected for opening, these are restored one after the other.
Restore projects (project management)
- Select the following commands: File > Project management > Button [Organize] > Restore.
- Use the
button in the Backup directory field of the dialog Restore project to select the directory in which the backed up projects are located. The backed up projects contained in the selected directory are displayed in the Projects list. If the directory contains split backup files, only the *.000.zw1 file is displayed, the other backup files belonging to the same project (*.001.zw1, *.002.zw1, etc.) are not shown. - Select the project(s) you wish to restore. Multiple selection is possible.
- Use the button in the Target directory field to select the target directory to which the data backup should be restored.
- If you have only selected a single project, in the Project name field you can change the name of the project to avoid overwriting an existing project.
- Confirm your entries. The backed up project is restored and copied into the specified project directory. If several projects were selected, then these are restored one after the other.
When restoring, EPLAN checks to see if the project already exists and if it can be overwritten.
The following differences should be noted:
- The project exists but is not currently open. In this case, a message is generated on restore and you can decide whether you wish to overwrite the project.
- The project exists and has been opened by the current user. In this case, a message is generated on restore and you can decide whether you wish to overwrite the project. When you confirm the restore, the currently open project is closed, then overwritten with the "old" data and reopened. Note that, in this case, any current changes are lost when the project is overwritten.
- The project exists and has been opened by another user. In this case, a message is displayed when restoring and the process is canceled.
Notes:
- Messages occurring during the backup of a project are stored as system messages, and can be viewed using File > Help > command group Support > Support & Updates > System messages.
- When projects are filed off, a check is performed for change project settings. If differences are found, the comparison message is displayed and stored in the message management (tab Tools > Command group Review > Messages).
