Connection Symbols: Basics

The following connection symbols are used in EPLAN to display direction changes and connection line junctions in the schematic:

  • Angle
  • T-nodes
  • Double junctions
  • Jumpers
  • Interruption points.

When selecting T-nodes, double junctions, jumpers, or interruption points, you have to specify the direction of the target tracking for the automatic report. Target tracking only treats symbols that represent devices as targets. It starts from one device and tries to find all of the devices along the automatically generated connections. By using angles, T-nodes, double junctions, and jumpers the connection will not necessarily be in a straight line.

T-nodes and double junctions allow you to influence target tracking. The search is done according to the following rules:

  • If only one connection flows in the direction of the search, EPLAN will find a target. In this case the search direction can be straight or go around corners.
  • If the connection branches in the search direction, EPLAN will find two targets. Whichever target EPLAN finds first depends on the line structure:
If the connection consists of a straight line and a branched line on a corner, the program first finds the target on the straight line and then the target around the corner.
If the connection branches in two directions, EPLAN first finds the target on the branch with the right angle and then the target on the diagonal branch.
