Determining the PLC Address of Terminals / Pins

For terminals and pins it is possible to determine the attached PLC connection points and output their PLC addresses in terminal or plug diagrams. To do this, the PLC address on the terminal or the pin is entered in the Connected PLC address (automatic) property. In the Connected PLC address property you can manually enter PLC information that is then displayed in the terminal or plug diagram.

EPLAN proceeds with the search as follows:

  • Internal targets are searched first. If no PLC connection point is found, the external targets are searched. The search is extended to take in connected terminals or pins (recursive search). As soon as a PLC connection point is found, its PLC address is transferred to the Connected PLC address (automatic) property.
  • If PLC connection points are not found in the internal or external targets, the targets which are connected via internal and external jumpers are searched.
  • If a PLC address is manually entered for a terminal or a pin, it is then accepted and the search is ended.
  • If a PLC connection point is changed, the Connected PLC address (automatic) property for the attached terminals or pins is automatically updated.

Tip:

In order to avoid ambiguities in PLC addresses during the search, it is wise to define the internal side of the terminal such that points towards the PLC connection point.
