Assemblies

An assembly is an item designed mainly for assembling simple 3D units such as connectors (e.g. composed of some pin mappings), connector housings, backshells, and grommets. Such an assembly makes placing all the included parts into a workspace easier since placement of all individual parts of the assembly is carried out in one step.

A 2D window is available, where it is possible to create a 2D representation for the assembly. It is used in the EPLAN Harness proD nailboard / cable drawing, if the checkbox Prefer Assembly/Device symbol is activated in the source document.

A 3D window is also available for assemblies. It serves to create a 3D assembly representation for further use in the EPLAN Harness proD workspace. There are no special properties to be determined.

Assemblies can consist of connectors, connectable objects, terminals (pin mappings typically), mechanical parts (parts, connector housings, backshells), and leading parts (including clips and grommets).

Within the Accessories tab, the following item types can also be attached to an assembly as "non-graphical" accessories (not visible in the 3D representation, but evaluated in reports): connectors, connectable objects, terminals, wires, parts, backshells, connector housings, leading parts, clips, grommets, labels, user-defined accessories, cable ties, looms, wrap tapes, flexible tubing, braided sleeves, shrink tubingng, and surface protection. For the "uncountable" non-graphical objects such as wires and surface protection it is possible to determine their length in the 3D window's properties panel.

Note:

Changes of a library item included in an assembly do not affect the assembly until it is reopened.

After updating a library in Version 2.9 Service Pack 2 and higher, assembly compositions will be separated into individual parts.
