Devices

A device is an item designed for pre-assembling various complex appliances composed of other library items. Such a device makes placing all the assembled parts into a workspace easier since placement of all individual parts of the device is carried out in one step.

A 2D window is available where it is possible to create a 2D representation for the device. It is used in the EPLAN Harness proD nailboard / cable drawing, if the checkbox Prefer Assembly/Device symbol is activated in the source document.

A 3D window is also available for devices. It serves to create a 3D representation for further use in the EPLAN Harness proD workspace. There are no special properties to be determined.

Assemblies can consist of connectors, connectable objects, terminals (pin mappings typically), mechanical parts (parts, connector housings, backshells), and leading parts (including clips and grommets).

Within the Accessories tab, the following item types can also be attached as "non-graphical" accessories (not visible in the 3D representation, but evaluated in reports): connectors, connectable objects, terminals, wires, parts, backshells, connector housings, leading parts, clips, grommets, labels, user-defined accessories, cable ties, looms, wrap tapes, flexible tubing, braided sleeves, shrink tubingng, and surface protection. For the "uncountable" non-graphical objects such as wires and surface protection it is possible to determine their length in the 3D window's properties panel.

Note:

Changes of a library item included in a device do not affect the device until it is reopened.

After updating a library in Version 2.9 Service Pack 2 and higher, device compositions will be separated into individual parts.
