Placing Parts

The following description applies to connectors, connectable objects, terminals, leading parts, clips, grommets, general parts, backshells, connector housings, assemblies, and devices. If a part is placed on another part, a constraint is created.

  1. Select the Insert > Place <component> menu items or the corresponding button on the main toolbar.

    The Part navigator dialog is opened.
  2. Click [OK] to insert a part with predefined handles, mounting points, coordinate systems into a workspace / workdesk.

    The part is attached to the mouse cursor centered on the main handle.
  3. Left-click to place the part freely.
    Or, in the command bar, enter the coordinates and click [OK] to place the part.
  4. Determine the Angle value and click one of the Rotate buttons, or press the [R] shortcut key to rotate the part.
  5. If the part has a coordinate system in its 3D window, it can be placed onto existing coordinates in the workspace / workdesk: Lock either one of the X, Y, Z axes.
  6. Determine a negative / positive direction of the X, Y, Z axes.
  7. Move the coordinate system of the part over the existing one and left-click to place the part.
  8. In the workspace / workdesk working window, move the parts over another one.

    The part is snapped to surfaces, edges, circles, and arcs.
  9. In the workspace / workdesk working window, toggle placing part onto:

    • Toggle placing onto surfaces, edges, circles, and arcs by pressing the button.
    • Toggle placing onto coordinate systems by pressing the button.
    • Toggle placing onto handles by pressing the button.
    • Toggle placing onto mounting points by pressing the button.
  10. Press the G key to cycle through handles, mounting points, coordinate system, origin point of the part.

    The preview of the part changes accordingly.
  11. If a part already placed has a mounting point and the part being placed has a main handle, move the part over the part already placed to place it aligned by its main handle onto the mounting point.
  12. If a part already placed has multiple mounting points press the left / right arrow keys to select the mounting point on which to align the part by its main handle.
  13. Left-click to place the part.

    The part is placed and a constraint created.

After finishing placing all the parts the visibility of coordinate systems, handles, and mounting points can be toggled by going to View > Show coordinate systems / handles / mounting points or pressing the X key.
