Every device in a technical facility must be uniquely identified. The identifier usually consists of letters and / or numbers that are used alone or combined in pre-defined blocks.
Identifiers or identifier blocks provide a keyed display of identifier functions and other specific information. The permissible identifiers, and their structure and meaning, are defined in industrial standards or factory standards.
To accommodate the many different identifier schemes, EPLAN supports the following standardized national and international identifier schemes:
- IEC 81346 (former IEC 61346)
- DIN ISO 1219
- NFPA
- NEC (not in all details)
- GOST (not in all details).
Through identifier blocks, EPLAN also allows the use of user-defined identification structures that can be used in the pages and devices of an EPLAN project.
Different identifier structures can be used within a project for pages and devices, which you can define using default or user-defined identifier schemes.
In EPLAN, "Project structure" means the combination of all identifier structures used in the project for pages and devices.
Changing the page structure
When creating a project, its page and device structure is determined by the selected project template or the basic project. In the project properties dialog you can also change page and device structure subsequently. The page structure can only be changed later under specific conditions at a project with pages:
- Extension of the page structure:
An extension of the page structure by a further identifier block (for example setting the "Document type" structure to "Identifying") or the changing of an identifier block from "Describing" to "Identifying" is always possible. - Reduction of the page structure:
A reduction of the page structure (meaning subsequently changing an identifying identifier block to "Describing" or "Not available") is only possible if no duplicate pages arise through this change. - No change in the page structure:
If a reduction of the page structure would result in duplicate pages, this change is not possible and a corresponding message is displayed.
In such a case up to 10 possible pages are listed in the system messages. In order to make modification of the page structure possible you have to adapt these pages so that unique complete page names result.
