Terminals and terminal strip definitions can be created upon inserting the appropriate symbol. In the terminal strip navigator or the device navigator you can predefine terminal and terminal strip definitions with specific properties. You can then place functions created in this manner in the schematic at a later time. Terminal strip definitions must be placed if you want to copy them later on.
Tip:
If you already know during project planning which terminal parts are to be used, you can insert the terminals directly as devices (menu items: Insert > Device). This means that you can, for example, conveniently place the individual terminal symbols of multi-level terminals one after the other. The function definition and the level of the respective terminal is displayed as a placement aid. You can use the [N] key to "browse" through the functions.
Insert terminals
- Select the menu item Insert > Symbol.
- Select the desired terminal in the Symbol selection dialog.
- Place the terminal on the schematic page.
- In the Properties <...> dialog, enter the device data of the terminal, e.g. the displayed DT, in the Terminal tab.
- Click [OK].
If you specified an existing DT, the terminal will be assigned to the corresponding terminal strip.
If you specified a new DT that does not already exist, then EPLAN will generate a new terminal strip. However, this strip will have no terminal strip definition.
Tip:
When you insert a terminal, the identifier is displayed beside the symbol hanging on the cursor together with a question mark (e.g. "-X?") if there are no more terminals in the DT adoption search direction. If you place the terminal, a new terminal strip is generated.
If there is already a terminal in the DT adoption search direction, the identifier beside the symbol is hidden. If you place the terminal there, it adopts the DT from the existing terminal, and is thus assigned to the existing terminal strip.
This behavior can be reversed by holding down the [Shift] key as you insert: If there is no terminal in the DT adoption search direction, the terminal is allocated to the last terminal strip to be used. If there is a terminal in the search direction, a new terminal strip is generated.
Insert terminal strip definition
- Select the menu item Insert > Terminal strip definition.
- Place the terminal strip definition on the schematic page.
- Enter the device data for the terminal strip on the Terminal strip definition tab in the Properties <...> dialog.
- Click [OK].
